The SHINE online conference is this year at its fourth edition, which focuses on identifying and overcoming challenges in teaching. We will receive insights into how to do that from a few of the best in the field of ELT.

Ross Thorburn

Teacher, teacher trainer, author and TEFL Training Institute podcast host

Based in Shanghai, China, Ross started his teaching career in China in 2006. Since then, he’s taught adults and kids, trained over 10,000 teachers, written two books for teachers, and provided professional development to over 10,000 teachers. Ross’ passions are designing activities which encourage students to communicate, using AI in language teaching and positive classroom management. Ross is also the host of the TEFL Training Institute Podcast.

Hugh Dellar ​

Teacher, teacher trainer, author

Hugh Dellar is a teacher and teacher trainer with over twenty years of  experience in the field. He is the co-founder of the online school and training company www.lexicallab.com. He has co-authored two multi-level General English series, Outcomes and Innovations, published by National Geographic Learning, and his first methodology book, Teaching Lexically, came out in 2016. Most recently, he worked on Grammar Nonsense . . . and what to do about it, published by Wayzgoose Press.

 

Sandy Millin

ELT consultant, teacher trainer, methodology writer and IATEFL Ambassador

Sally regularly speaks at conferences both online and offline. She has recently completed the NILE MA in Professional Development in Language Education, which she did around her work as a Director of Studies and then as a freelancer. She blogs at http://sandymillin.wordpress.com. She has self-published three books: ELT Playbook 1, ELT Playbook Teacher Training and Richer Speaking.

 

Aniella Bușilă

Cambridge University Press & Assessment Educational Consultant and Presenter

Aniella Bușilă is a teacher and a teacher trainer and has been a Cambridge Educational Consultant since 2009. She has extensive experience of Cambridge English exams and has prepared students and teachers for the full range of Cambridge English qualifications. She has always been interested in her own professional development to continually improve her students and trainees’ learning experience. Aniella holds a degree in foreign languages and the Cambridge English TKT, CELT-P, CELT-S, and CELTA teaching qualifications.

 

Peter Lucantoni

Professional Learning and Development Manager for Cambridge University Press & Assessment, teacher, teacher trainer, author

Peter Lucantoni has had a long career in English language teaching, teacher training and management, in Europe and the Middle East, and he is now based in Cyprus. He is the author and co-author of a range of popular coursebooks for students, including Cambridge IGCSE English as a Second Language, and Introduction to English as a Second Language, both published by Cambridge University Press.  He is also the co-author of From Teacher to Trainer with Matthew T Ellman. Peter is Professional Learning and Development Manager for Cambridge University Press & Assessment, and regularly speaks at ELT conferences and trains teachers internationally in both the public and private sectors. His main interests are in teacher education and transitioning teachers into trainer roles.

Cosmin Frunză

Twinkle Star Teacher, Trainer and Mentor

Cosmin has been an ESL teacher at Twinkle Star for more than 8 years. He has a BA in English and for the past years he has been a mentor for students who want to pursue a teaching career via the Train2Teach programme implemented by Twinkle Star three years ago.

Matthew W. Turner

Lecturer in the Institute of Arts and Sciences at the Tokyo University of Science, Japan

Alongside his academic career, Matthew has co-authored Podcasting and Professional Development: A Guide for English Language Teachers (The Round, 2017) and is a co-founder of The TEFLology Podcast and CLIL Voices podcasts.  His research interests include language teacher education, continuing professional development, reflective practice, and podcasting in academia. He is an active member of the Japan Association of Language Teachers (JALT), regularly contributing to its conferences and publications, and previously coordinated its Teacher Development special interest group. 

Robert J. Lowe

Associate Professor in the Department of Languages and Culture, Ochanomizu University, Japan

Robert is the co-author of Teaching English as a Lingua Franca (DELTA Publishing, 2018), co-editor of Duoethnography in English Language Teaching (Multilingual Matters, 2020), and author of Uncovering Ideology in English Language Teaching (Springer, 2020). His research focuses on the critical sociology of ELT, and he has published papers in numerous journals, including Language Teaching, Applied Linguistics Review, and ELT Journal.

Mirela Ursu

ELT teacher, mentor, active member of the MATE community, Romania
